The Harkens Family

I’ve been thinking a lot lately about this whole parenthood deal. My kids are now 10 and 12, and while the days of diapers and binkies feel like a million years ago, they also somehow feel like yesterday. Crazy how that can happen, isn’t it?

I am truly convinced, though, that watching them grow into the people they are meant to be is one of life’s greatest gifts. When you look at them as babies you have all of these hopes and dreams and worries and fears. As they grow into their own little people those visions change and grow, and become so much better, and in some ways harder, but always clearer and more true.

Our kids change.  And in the midst of all of their growing and changing, we change.

I would have never been able to imagine what a gift having a 10 and 12 year old would be when my kids were 1. Should we tell all the parents of those littles how wonderful it will be even when they’re too big to carry and when they use all the right words and walk off on their own in so many ways?

Or should we let it be a glorious surprise, waiting at the other side of a tunnel filled with firsts?

I’ll let you decide on that one.  But in the meantime, you can soak up the sweetness of this family embarking on the front end of this journey called parenthood.

They are absolutely rocking it so far, and I cannot wait to see where this little man takes them on the journey.
